and the Pork Rinds… I go over the Acceptable Foods for Atkins Induction and Extended Induction phase and personal advice on how to have a successful Induction phase. Having a successful Induction phase of Atkins is so much more than just losing weight. It is about getting your eating under your control again, getting your blood glucose levels stabilized, starting to learn new healthy habits with food, and finally to experience the magic of ketosis to the person needing to lose weight …

Mr. Bowulf, how …
Mr. Bowulf, how long were you in Induction? I noticed you said you said it’s OK to stay in Induction until you last 5-10lbs. Being you lost a considerate amount of weight how long were you on induction?

Remember the Atkins …
Remember the Atkins Diet is not just about losing the weight, but it is about keeping off. So Induction to the end and no carbs are not the way to go. Check out my how much can I lose on Induction video for a better answer to your question, but most people tend to lose between 5-20% of their weight to lose in the first two weeks.
As for how long to stay in Induction, you can stay in Induction up until the final 5-10 pounds where you need to enter pre-maintenance phase.

Heya! I have a …
Heya! I have a question. I did the atkins diet last summer and stayed on for about 4 months. I started out at about 200-210lbs. I now weigh 170 but would like to lose at least 25-30lbs more. My question, to anyone who knows is. How much weight can I expect to lose if I stay on induction (No Carbs AT ALL) for atlest 2-3 weeks? If that is not possible, how long should I stay on induction in order to achieve that weight loss?

For a strict Induction, no even zero carb protein powder would not be allowed since it is made from a whey protein. Isopure is a great brand, but the strict Atkineer in me says wait until OWL for it.

Yes, it is if …
Yes, it is if you’ve reached the later stages of OWL (the grains rung). At that level as long as you stay within your CCLL, you are fine to eat Low Carb bread or tortillas. The only thing that remains cautionary are refined white flour items.

Not during …
Not during Induction, but shortly thereafter on rung 2 or 3 of OWL (dairy rung) you can add it back in.
As for Salad Dressing, any that is less than 2g per 2 TBS is fine.

The problem with …
The problem with most commercial fried chicken is that they are breaded with flour not Induction legal ingredients like pork rinds or parmesan cheese. Most oils are fine, but I would use an oil with higher smoke temp for frying chicken.

I went on Atkins in 2002-2003 and gave up on it. I am back on it now because everything else I have tried failed. I am going stick with the SF Kool-Aid and see what happens. Thanks. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
March 13th, 2009 at 11:24 am
SF Kool-aid is …
SF Kool-aid is loaded with aspartame, which is “has caused stalls in 25% Dr. A’s patients” item. It is definitely a YMMV thing, and something if added you might be paranoid about stalling. (At least that was why I was and still am reluctant about aspartame.)

Dr Atkins believe …
Dr Atkins believe heavily in the requirement of the phytonutrients found in veggies for a healthy life. So they should be considered required for all phases to be healthy not just for fiber. You could lose weight on just drinking water, but it would be unhealthy to do so. About as close as Dr. Atkins came to zero carbing was the fat fast, and he only recommended for short periods of time AND to select few highly metabolically resistent dieters.

Is Veggies required to lose weight or is it just put in there to keep you regular?
March 13th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Yes, if by salad …
Yes, if by salad you mean salad veggies, which includes a lot more than just lettuce like peppers, jicama, mushrooms, etc. You can have up to three cups in one serving or that amount spread across many servings. Alternatively, you have the other veggie group (broccoli, tomato, onions, cabbage, etc.) that you can have one cup, but that reduces the salad group down to 2 cups total per day.
I would encourage spreading the carbs over the course of the day not one meal.

Ok, so basically if you are going to eat saleds, you have to make sure that the saled from the acceptable food list is no more than 3 cups total? So basically you can just have one saled for the day rest is meats and eggs?
