I see a lot of overwieght people drinking diet soft drinks etc but no one seems to be getting thinner…. any ideas?

People think if they drink diet then they can get load up on extra stuff. Just because your drink is zero calories the super sized fries probably added an additional 500 calories your meal.

Weight loss is all about comsumption vs energy expended.

I see it all the time, a "fat" guy goes to McDonalds, orders 2 Big Macs, 20 piece McNuggets and a Filet-O-Fish. Then he orders a diet soda! What's the point?

I guess if you can skip a few calories on your drink even if you aren't in other areas its probably worthwhile.

It's not meant to be a magic formula.

take eating everything home-cooked & freshly prepare in moderate amount & do regular exercise (till you sweat) that will help better than just "diet label" eating & drinking.

The body does not loose its taste for sweets as it does not distinguish between diet and regular soda. Therefore,as soon as they stop drinking it,the sweet cravings will continue. It also keeps the stomach from shrinking to a smaller size. As soon as the liquids are 'expelled',the body wants to fill this space with more soda, food, sweets-whatever it can get.

Work? What do you mean? You expect to lose weight by drinking them?
They have perhaps a teaspoon less sugar than a non-diet drink. If you think not consuming a little sugar per day will make you thin, then Im sure you arent.

The problem, I believe, is that drinking the diet soda does not satisfy. Diet drinks have no nutritional value and contain no calories (which is a measure of energy obtained from the product), therefore people tend to unknowingly overeat to make up for the difference. Problem is that people actually end up taking in more calories from food in an attempt to satisfy what they would have gotten from the soda with much less calories. Their was a study done on this not too long ago, and the researchers concluded that those trying to lose weight actually lost more when they did not replace their regular soda with diet. Of course, this only works if you drink soda in moderation. Moderation is the key to everything.

It's not called diet soda because it IS a diet. It's not magical weight loss juice. It has less calories because it's not real sugar, so people who are on a diet might want to drink that instead (though people who are serious about their diet and know what they're doing would skip it altogether) You can drink diet soda and still be consuming more calories than you burn, and that is what keeps you from loosing weight.

It isn't the diet soda that's keeping them fat, it's the other stuff they eat and their eating habits. I don't drink any carbonated beverages. The carbonation messes up some of your body's natural processes, inhibits weight loss, etc. As far as diet drinks or other products go, you are better off just eating a balanced diet with a lot of fruit and vegetables. Artificial sweeteners are toxic and nasty. Saccharin (Sweet and Low) has been found to cause cancer. Aspartame (Nutrasweet) was originally developed by the military as a chemical weapon and has been linked (unofficially) to numerous diseases, including Multiple sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, and other nuerological problems. Splenda is the newest one, and it advertised as being "made from sugar". However, chlorine is used in the processing of it, and it contains all sorts of compounds that we don't want to be putting into our bodies. The key to weight loss is a balanced diet. We need to eat a lot of vegetables and drink a lot of water, and balance the carbs you eat with a relatively equal amount of protein.
