Im going to start the south beach diet. I do ab workouts but want to lose 2 LBS. If I don;t eat any carbs will that fat go away?

Mr Yang, Yes you can. I am on Phase one of south beach in my 3rd day and I have already lost a few pounds, however this diet it not meant to be treated like a horse you just hop on and then hop off. It's a life style plan you need to stick to.

I felt like a wreck. Hyper, irritable and had to go back eating carbs to ward off a very awful, physical craving.

Over a period of 20 years, 3-4 times I did an Adkins/ No (very low) Carbs diet with no problems, no adverse sensations and excellent weight loss.
I just quit the diet (about the only one I can do, due to lifestyle) because this feeling of going half crazy was too much. I really have done well with Adkins and it has never presented a problem before.
Besides a small amout of discipline, it was pretty easy to stay on and in terms of losing weight, it was very effective. Lost 10-15 lbs a month. It didn’t go so well this last time

Has anyone experienced this same thing? No carbs, feel like you’re
youre going to shoot someone if you dont eat a Big Mac?

You cannot sustain a high protein, low carb diet for too long. Your body is not built for that type of diet.

The reason you have irratability, mood swings and want to kill for a big mac is because your body is crying out for energy! Try slightly more carbs and slightly less protein and you will feel better. Try high fibre foods to make you feel fuller for longer.

Excessively high amounts of protein has been linked to psychotic episodes on rare occaisons.

Weight loss of 10-15 lbs a month is too much too quick. Sensible diet and sensible excercise is still the best routine.

when i started dieting i was doing the adkins to like detox which i lost a lot of weight doing thios, but then i started counting colories which ive been doing for like 4 months. but since i got better results with the adkins i wanna go back on it but whenever i do i get tightness in my chest and get scared and stop is this normal? because it didnt happen before at the beginning

You mean Atkins. No the Atkins diet is not a healthy diet, tho the tightness in your chest could just be gas from eating all that protein. Going into ketosis is not healthy for you but a more moderate low carb diet is a good way to loose body fat. Actually just eating the right carbs is all that really matters. Try just eating normally(not counting calories) and don't eat anything that wouldn't have been available to a cave man. Definitely don't consume any msg, high fructose corn syrup, or trans fat. Also try to stay clear of bread(unless it's flowerless), cereal, and fruit juice. Look up the glycemic index and eat carbs that have a low GI or low GL.

By the way, people do loose weight on the Atkins diet, which is why it's a fairly popular diet. What the Atkins followers don't realize is that they're getting caught up in their scales; the weight they loose turns out to be mostly water and lean mass which actually primes you to gain fat in the future. It's bad news.

Is this normal? I eat veggies and all my water.

I did that diet before and lost 17 lbs the first two weeks (I also included exercise). Gained every pound back after I quit though. I have found the best and most effective weight loss program is exercise. From what I remember about that diet there were no carbs allowed in the first two weeks, that includes all fruit and vegetables. It was strictly protein. Atkins is a fantastic "destination diet", meaning that it's great to drop a few unwanted pounds quickly, but in the long run it is no an effective or healthy way to maintain a good weight.

i plan on eating only fruits and veggies, some lean protein, and eggs from now on. i really need to lose about 12 pounds by august. if i start eating smaller portions and cutting all the bad stuff plus breads from my diet, how much weight will i lose PER WEEK?? i heard the first couple weeks can result in dramatic weight loss.

oh by the way, i already am pretty active, so please don't waste time mentioning exercise. i go walking a few times a week, plus i'm on my feet walking around at work also. so i'm always moving around.

Every person is different. For me, the weight dropped off pretty quickly, but I didn't switch to lose weight, so it's hard to say exactly how much I lost and how fast.

12 pounds by August seems very reasonable as long as you do legitimately have 12 pounds to lose.
